Forest Preserve of Cook County, Elk Grove, Illinois

This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of wildlife capture techniques including different methods of trapping and chemically immobilizing wild animals. Attendees will learn from a combination of lecture and hands-on activities covering drug selection and pharmacology, anesthetic monitoring, and how to safely set up and check traps for terrestrial, aquatic, and flighted animals of all sizes. Attendees will gain practical skills in dart-gun use, rocket netting, and more, and will learn the advantages and disadvantages of different capture methods. This experience is targeted towards veterinary students, graduate students, and early career professionals, but more advanced content can also be presented by our expert workshop leaders, who have over 50 years of combined experience in this field.
Transport to and from the workshop location and a mid-morning coffee break with light refreshments will be provided.
